How we check facts
How HerpWise researches, sources, reviews and updates its reptile care guides, and what we do when sources disagree.
Every HerpWise guide follows the same steps before it goes live.
- We start from strong sources. Veterinary hospitals and references, peer-reviewed studies, and university extension material come first. Keeper experience is used for practical tips, never for medical claims.
- Every number is linked. Temperatures, enclosure sizes, feeding amounts and supplement schedules carry a numbered link to the source they came from.
- Disagreement is shown, not hidden. When good sources disagree, we say so and explain what each recommends.
- We check every claim against its source before publishing. When a guide has been reviewed by a veterinarian, the reviewer is named on the page. We never list a reviewer who has not reviewed the guide.
- Pages show their history. Each guide shows the date it was last checked and a short list of what changed.

Corrections
If you find an error, tell us and include the source. We correct the page, note the change in its update history, and re-check related guides.
Not veterinary advice
Our guides explain care and warning signs. They cannot diagnose an animal. If your reptile is unwell, contact a veterinarian experienced with reptiles.
